Emma Zgonc is a Law Clerk and future associate attorney at Jackson LLP.
Emma brings a public health and policy perspective to her work and enjoys the challenges of changing healthcare policy and the interaction of state and federal health law.
Emma studied at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, receiving a dual bachelor’s degree in sociology and a Master’s in Global Health. She is currently in her third year at the University of Illinois College of Law in Urbana-Champaign. After she graduates and takes the Illinois bar exam, Emma will join the Jackson LLP as an attorney in the fall of 2024.
At UIUC, Emma founded the Disability Law Society to make law school and the legal profession more accessible. After her first year of law school, Emma held her first health law internship at the Legal Council for Health Justice, which confirmed her interest in health law.
Emma recently held an externship with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Counsel to the Inspector General, where she focused on governmental healthcare fraud. Emma is also the 2023-2024 Law Student Fellow for the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys and looks forward to continuing to grow her career in Illinois. Emma participated in Jackson LLP’s summer associate program in 2023.
Emma is passionate about disability and diabetes advocacy and regularly volunteers with diabetes organizations like the Diabetes Patient Advocacy Coalition. Outside of school and work, Emma enjoys thrifting and cooking. She hosts a monthly cookbook club and recommends the cookbook Mi Cocina by Rick Martínez.
