Charlotte Kurzweil works with healthcare professionals and independent practices on the legal and compliance issues involved in starting and operating a practice. The practices she works with include solo practitioners and small private practices owned by physicians, nurse practitioners and other advanced practice providers, mental health professionals, and medical spa owners. Her work includes practice formation and startup, MSO and management services agreements, legal considerations for concierge medicine and other private-pay healthcare models, HIPAA policies and compliance, and informed consent and intake forms, as well as the contracts and regulatory matters.
Background and Experience
Charlotte studied at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, receiving her bachelor’s degree in Classics and completing the pre-health track before attending Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
At Loyola, Charlotte was a senior editor for Annals of Health Law and Life Sciences, the school’s health policy and law review. She published an article in Advance Directive discussing the need for expanded HIPAA and HITECH data privacy and security standards for patients accessing tele-mental healthcare. Charlotte’s team also earned first place in the Annual Health Law Regulatory & Compliance Competition sponsored by the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
During law school, Charlotte was a law clerk at a workers’ compensation defense firm, gaining experience in the legal issues surrounding workplace injuries. She also served on Loyola’s Health Justice Project, where she assisted clients who were facing health-harming legal issues involving housing, public benefits, and guardianship.
Outside of work, Charlotte enjoys running on the Lakefront Trail, spending time with friends, and baking sweet treats. A native New Yorker, Charlotte now lives on the North Side of Chicago.
